What is Mobile App Verification

Mobile App Verification is a multi-factor authentication method to verify your identity using the Capital One app. It creates an extra layer of security to help prevent unauthorized access to your online account.

How to set it up

  1. Download the Capital One app.
  2. Turn on push notifications for the app so that you’re notified when you receive a Mobile App Verification request.
Note: This step is optional but recommended. You will still receive Mobile App Verification requests even if push notifications are turned off.
  3. Make sure “Mobile App Verification” is enabled in the app. Go to More, Verification Settings, and then select Mobile App Verification.
  4. Register your device in the app. Go to More, then Verification Settings. From there, tap Add Device to register your device.

How it works

When completing a high-risk action using your online banking account (for example, resetting your PIN), Capital One will send you a push notification (if enabled) when we need to verify it's you. Open the Capital One app and approve the Mobile App Verification request in order to continue. If you accidentally decline a Mobile App Verification request, simply request another one.

Why am I not receiving Mobile App Verification requests?

Try these troubleshooting tips:

  • Confirm your phone is connected to cellular data or Wi-Fi. You can check your connection in your iOS or Android device settings.
  • Make sure you have the latest version of the Capital One app downloaded on your mobile device.
  • Make sure “Mobile App Verification” is enabled in the app. Go to More, Verification Settings, and then select Mobile App Verification.
  • Check that your device is registered in the app. Go to More, then Verification Settings. From there, tap Add Device to register your device, if needed.
  • Check that push notifications are turned on in your device settings.
