How to check to see if you’ve been a victim of fraud

  • Look out for any unauthorized transactions by reviewing your bank or credit card statements or accessing your recent activity by signing in to your Capital One online banking account.
  • You can also customize your purchase notification preferences in your Capital One online banking account to be alerted if:
    • A purchase is greater than the amount that you choose
    • A transaction outside of Canada is posted to your account

Capital One will alert you proactively if we detect suspicious activity on your account.

  • In addition, we recommend reviewing your credit report for any suspicious activity – refer to the Credit Score section for information about requesting a free credit report from the major credit reporting agencies.
  • If you suspect that unauthorized transactions have been made on your account, or that someone has applied for a Capital One account in your name without your knowledge, please contact us immediately.
