How to Check the Status of Your Capital One Credit Card Application
Call 1-877-277-5901 and select option 2 to check the status of your credit card application.
How long does it take for Capital One to make an application decision?
When you submit your application, you’ll typically get a response immediately. We’ll also let you know if there are additional steps you need to take before we send you your card.
What steps will I need to take after my application has been approved?
Depending on your situation, there may be a few additional steps you need to take after your application has been approved.

You’ve been approved and we need to verify your identity |

You’ve been approved for a secured card |
|
Why wasn’t my application approved immediately?
While it’s possible to be approved or declined for a new credit card almost instantly, we may need more time to review an application. We may also contact you in 5-10 business days to verify the information you provided on your application before we make a decision.
Can I update the information I provided on my application?
If your application is still being reviewed, or you’re in the process of completing the additional steps after being approved, contact us and we can update your address information. Unfortunately, we can’t update other details such as your name, date of birth, email address, phone number or income information. If you’ve made an error, you’ll need to withdraw your application and re-apply with your up-to-date information.
Why was my application declined?
If Quick Check pre-approves a card, you can be sure we’ll approve your application, except in limited circumstances. Some of the reasons we may not approve your application, among others, include:
- There’s been a change in your credit file information, personal information or financial status from the time you receive your Quick Check results to the time you apply for one of our credit cards.
- You’re not at least the age of majority in the province or territory you live in.
- Your application is flagged for fraud prevention.
- You have an existing Capital One account.
- You’ve applied for a Capital One account in the last 30 days or had an account with us that was not in good standing in the last year. In good standing means not past due, over limit, fraudulent, restricted, or part of a consumer credit counselling program or bankruptcy.
