How to Pay Your Capital One Credit Card Bill

You can pay your Capital One credit card bill online from your account at another financial institution using the Pay a Bill option:

  1. Sign in to your bank’s online banking site.
  2. Add Capital One Mastercard as a new bill payee using your 16-digit credit card number as your account number.
  3. Follow the prompts to complete your payment.

A few important things to note:

  • Use Capital One Mastercard as a bill payee only for paying your credit card balance.
  • If you need to send in security funds for your secured card, you’ll need to set up a separate bill payee.
  • Different financial institutions may use slightly different payee names. Contact your bank for assistance.
  • Payments can take 2-3 business days to be applied to your account. If you're close to your credit limit, or have exceeded it, you won't be able to make another transaction until your payment is applied, or ‘posted’, to your account.
  • Your payment will be backdated to the date the transaction was processed by the bank you made your payment from. Banks usually process payments on the same business day if they’re completed before 8:30 p.m. EST. You can contact your bank to check.

If you’ve replaced your card after it was lost or stolen, your replacement card will have a new number, so you’ll need to replace your old 16-digit Capital One card number with your new one before making your next payment through your bank’s online banking site or app.

You’ll also need to update your payment information anywhere that you have it saved, such as any subscription-based services (such as streaming services) or any automatic recurring payments (such as your phone bill or gym membership). Reviewing your transactions in your Capital One online banking account can help you identify your recurring payments.
